After several months of delay due to Covid-19 West Yorkshire Archive Service Kirklees office have finally embarked on our much anticipated Creating Kirklees cataloguing project. You can find out more about the project in a previous blog post here.
Helping people trace their birth families, assisting local businesses renovating historic buildings, empowering local community groups to protect much loved greenspaces, parks and memorials and supporting Kirklees Council deliver major regeneration schemes – these are just a few of the many ways our local authority archive collections have been used in the past. We know that these fantastic collections have even greater potential to benefit local communities in Kirklees and the Creating Kirklees project aims to make more of these records accessible to even more of you.
Over the next 18 months we’ll be posting regular updates on our social media channels. This will include sharing any great finds as we and our volunteers catalogue the material and providing you with lots of information about how you can access and use the records.

As part of Heritage Open Days in September 2021 we’ll also be hosting events in central Huddersfield (see details here and here) where local people can come to find out about the project and see some of our local authority collections for themselves. We can’t wait to see you there!
