We are delighted that our events programme for the Window on the West Riding project has begun and invite you to the John Goodchild Collection Pop-Up Shop and Open Day!
West Yorkshire Archive Service are holding a pop-up shop event in the Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield, opposite the entrance to Primark where we will be highlighting some of the items from the John Goodchild Collection. We will be there to answer any questions you may have about the collection and our service as well as telling you all about the exciting open day at West Yorkshire History Centre which will be held on Saturday 21st May.
Members of Wakefield Historical Society and Wakefield Libraries staff will be with us to tell you about the work they do and how we are all working together to ensure that the John Goodchild Collection gets the recognition it deserves!

We will be celebrating the John Goodchild Collection with an exhibition of records in the collection plus a series of talks on the collection and project. Information will also be available on the day from Wakefield Historical Society, Heritage Action Zone and Wakefield Libraries.
This event will also see the launch of the fabulous John Goodchild Collection Sponsor a Box scheme which gives everyone the opportunity to play a part in the preservation of this unique collection.
Free talks will be given by both the John Goodchild Project archivist, Helen Walker and Dr Phil Judkins, a History Fellow at the University of Leeds and Beaufort Fellow-elect at Cambridge. Starting with an introduction to the collection and looking at its significance to the people of West Yorkshire, moving onto a talk on Knights Hospitaller records held within the collection and finishing with some wonderful finds and the future of the collection.
