Confirmation of land at Bramley gifted to the monks at Fountains Abbey, circa 1170

This deed records the gift of land to the monks of Fountains Abbey from their wealthy neighbour Roger de Mubrai (or Mowbray). The gift describes the landscape at the time and includes the wood and plain, park, pasture, moorland and waters, from the monastery fosse at Musebec to the great oak below the brow of the hill… across the wood to the road from Bramley to Mallesart, thence to Kesebec, Sienderhau, Musekelda and back to the monks’ fosse.
