Building Plans for Bradford Town Hall

The plans for the building were officially submitted to the building committee on 12th October 1870. The archives include the plans that were submitted to the council, including elevations, floor plans and details of the beautiful clock tower.

Bradford Borough Building Register 1, Entries for Market Street. Plans for the Town Hall, Brown Muffs department store, the Mechanics Institute, and the Wool Exchange building are all registered on this page.

As the plans were working documents, they show how they’ve been used over the years, both as building reference documents, and records for later works. In the Ground Floor block plan we can see the shape of the building is similar to the example designs included in the Town Clerk’s report of 1867. The plan has also been annotated with changes that were made later, presumably during the building process. For example, the Mayor’s reception room has been renamed the dining room, and the Coroner’s office has been renamed the Jury room.
